Managing Asbestos
In November 2002, the Government introduced the Control of Asbestos at Work (CAWR) regulations in order to regulate the management of this dangerous substance in the workplace.
Regulation 4 of CAWR - Duty to Manage Asbestos in Non-Domestic Premises comes into effect on May 21st 2004. It states that an Asbestos Register should be produced which details the extent and condition of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) throughout premises. A management plan should also be produced to decide what to do with each ACM.
