Types of Surveys TYPE
1 This gives a general indication of asbestos within the property (without taking samples). This doesn't establish what is or isn't asbestos. With this type of survey the building owner bears the additional cost and inconvenience of managing materials which in reality may not be asbestos.
TYPE 2 Standard sampling, identification and assessment survey. Investigateing all reasonably accessible areas. Samples are taken and subjected to laboratory testing. The sampling survey will cause minor disruption and minimal damage to fabric finishes.
A Type 3 survey establishes and describes all asbestos-containing materials in the building as far as is reasonably practicable and may involve destructive inspection techniques. The volume of asbestos materials will be established, but no assessment of condition will be made. |
